Licensed Mental Health Counselor
I help people walk through the world with a greater sense of connection with those around them, a greater sense of joy, and greater ability to do things they thought they couldn’t do. I am drawn to working with survivors of trauma and abuse because I love helping people realize that they are not broken. Many of the things that make trauma survivors feel isolated and “crazy” are part of a pattern – and this pattern is understandable and treatable. You can get your life back.
When a person is traumatized, they learn to cope in whatever way will help them survive. They learn a pattern to help keep them safe — shutting down, getting angry, compartmentalizing, or being perfect. The thought patterns and behaviors that come from trauma can last for years. A lot of the people who come to me feel numb or cut off or lonely or in chaos. It’s exhausting. Many people reach out for help when they realize they haven’t been living fully, or they haven’t experienced joy in a really long time.
I meet you where you are and learn about the struggles you are facing. I sit alongside you and give you manageable tools to help turn off the noise in your mind — turn down the volume on your thoughts so you can come into contact with the present moment. Together we explore with compassion how you have learned to survive and we work together to develop additional tools to manage emotions and cope with triggers.
I believe that trauma can’t prevent you from living a full life. The path you’ve walked makes you who you are and there is beauty in how you have survived through adversity. I want to help you take ownership of the strengths you’ve developed to survive. It is tough to grapple with past traumas, but on the other side there is a sense of wholeness and a deeper connection with those around you. I really care about helping people feel more at ease in their bodies; to let go of the struggle and tension and anxiety that they’ve held in tight for so long…to finally let go and find peace.
If trauma has been getting in the way of you living more fully, I can help. You can face heartache and adversity with more ease, compassion, understanding, flexibility and skill. You can face life challenges with your full potential instead of hiding. Together we can help you find joy and peace again.
