We understand that therapy is an investment, of both your time and your money. An investment into yourself and perhaps also into your relationship, and the therapists in our practice do everything we can to help you to maximize your investment.
Please note that couples therapy is not billable to insurance at Catalyst. This is because, in couples work, we are treating the relationship itself rather than an individual partner’s mental health diagnosis. Insurance requires a diagnosable condition for one insured individual, and relational diagnoses and service codes are not billable—even for out-of-network reimbursement. For this reason, we do not bill insurance for couples counseling and do not provide superbills.
Instead, we offer a fee scale based on the experience level of the couples counselor, the length of the session, and the appointment time. We provide both 53-minute and 90-minute sessions. For example, evening 90-minute sessions with a more experienced clinician will be at the higher end of the scale, while daytime 53-minute sessions with a newer clinician will be lower. We will review all of these details during our phone call so you know exactly what to expect.
HSA's and FSA's: We are happy to run your sessions through your health savings account (HSA) or flexible spending account (FSA), which can be used to pay for medical expenses such as therapy (both individual and couples therapy) and can often significantly decrease the cost of treatment.
Pricing depends on the time of day of the appointment and the level of experience of the couples therapist:
53 minute couples therapy session - $80-185/session
90 minute couples therapy session - $100-$300/session
90 minute couples co-therapy session - session co-facilitated by a couples therapist in training and our Education Director, Dr. Jennifer Kennett - $200/session
What is couples co-therapy?
Co-therapy is the opportunity to provide couples counseling in collaboration with both a couples therapist in training and our education director, Dr. Jennifer Kennett. John & Julie Gottman do this quite often. The benefit is that there is a balance in the room between the couple and the therapists. It allows one therapist to "take the lead" in a session or intervention, while the second therapist is able to attend and respond to the interpersonal dynamics of the couple and in the therapeutic space.
